A thermostat helps you in taking care of your heating and air-conditioning needs. There are many energy saving thermostat available in the market and a proper use of the thermostats allows to save much on the rising electricity bills and also to keep the environment clean. Let us understand more about the efficient use of thermostats.
Efficient Use Instructions
Instruction#1
Energy can be saved by allowing the thermostat not to over ride the pre programmed settings as it can temporarily make an area warmer or cooler without erasing the pre set programming.
Instruction#2
The thermostat devices usually have two types of hold features. The first feature is hold/permanent/vacation and the second one is temporary. It is better to avoid the hold/permanent/vacation feature to that is to manage day-to-day temperature settings. Hold or vacation features are best when you are away from home for some period.
Instruction#3
You can set the feature at a constant, efficient temperature when going away from home on a vacation. You will end up wasting energy and money if you leave the hold feature at the comfort setting while you are away.
Instruction#4
Shooting up your thermostat up to 80 degrees or down to 30 degrees will not heat or cool your house any faster. Many thermostats include Energy Star qualified units that heat or cool at a programmed time, to reach set-point temperatures sometime thereafter.
Instruction#5
There are many units with adaptive smart recovery features that are an exception to this rule. These units reach desired temperatures by the set time as they use formulas that are based on your previous use.
Instruction#6
To make it more efficient install the thermostat on an interior wall, and keep it away from heating or cooling vents and other sources of heat or drafts.
Instruction#7
Another point is that many homes use just one thermostat to control the whole house. If your home has multiple heating or cooling areas, you will need a programmable setback thermostat for each section to increase comfort, convenience and energy savings.
Instruction#8
Remember to change the batteries each year. Some units have the indicators when batteries need to be changed.
